Stearns & Foster

Since 1846, Stearns & Foster has built a heritage of luxury by emphasizing the finest materials, attention to detail, and a steadfast commitment to creating an exceptional sleeping experience. George Stearns & Seth Foster opened their first factory outside of Cincinnati in Lockland, Ohio and began by making cotton felt for mattresses and other products. Eventually they began developing their own line of mattresses, beginning the traditions of beauty and fine craftsmanship that defines Stearns & Foster today.

In the early 1900s, Stearns & Foster took an unprecedented step for a bedding manufacturer and brought in renowned stylists, artists and designers to form a design committee. They incorporated influences from 18th century damasks, Wedgewood pottery and other classical and romantic elements into their designs. They became known for luxurious fabric covers that were soft to the touch, enhancing the comfort of fine linens. The Stearns & Foster mission became to educate consumers on the link between mattress quality and better sleep.

In 1994, Stearns and Foster reengineered and reintroduced their entire product line, creating a new luxury category in bedding and gaining an unprecedented 97% customer satisfaction rating. In 2005, they launched the Comfort Bridge, a unique new construction that works in harmony with the foam encased innerspring system and the comfort layers in the top of the mattress to absorb motion and create a consistent feel across the bed.
